Note-This group may include specially designed valves for use on individual types of equipment or systems. Excluded are such items as tire valves, engine intake and exhaust valves, explosive valves, carburetor valves, water mixing valves, and flush valves.

VALVE,FLOAT

A valve designed to utilize a valve float which controls the opening or closing of the valve as the valve float is lowered or raised by the level of the fluid being controlled. Excludes VALVE, FLOAT, WATER CLOSET TANK.

VALVE,GATE

A valve having a flat or tapered disk (gate) which moves transversely to the axis of flow by rotating or sliding movements of the stem to open or close the orifice. It may also contain an oval or rectangular shaped slide which may be manually, motor, or pressure operated through the means of an arm or arm assembly. The body flange may be designed to accommodate tube type connectors. It may or may not contain thermal relief features. Includes valve (gate) specifically designed for the control of fluid systems in aircraft or missiles.

VALVE,ANGLE

A valve with one inlet and one outlet connection with outlet flow at an angle to inlet flow. The flow is controlled by the action of a stem which lifts disks perpendicularly off the center axis of its seat. It may be inline or cartridge (manifold) design. Excludes VALVE (1), Y; VALVE, STOP-CHECK; and COCK, SHUTOFF, SCREW STEM.

VALVE,CROSS

A valve with two connections on the run and a third and sometimes fourth connection at 90 degree (1.5708 radians) angle(s) to the run. The flow is controlled by the action of a stem which lifts a disk perpendicularly off of the center axis of its seat.

VALVE,GLOBE

A valve with one inlet and one outlet connection with outlet flow parallel to inlet flow. The flow is controlled by the action of a stem which lifts the disk perpendicularly off the center axis of its seat. The stem is at a 90 degree (1.5708 radians) angle to axis of flow. Excludes VALVE, STOP-CHECK; COCK, SHUTOFF, SCREW STEM; and VALVE, SOLENOID.

VALVE,STOP-CHECK

A valve with a bolt or stem that may be mechanically actuated to two different positions by rotary or linear motion. In the first position, the valve disk is located and locked against the seat permitting no fluid flow through the valve. In the second position, one side of the valve disk is located against the seat permitting movement of the disk in a manner that will allow a flow of fluid in one direction through the valve. The valve disk may be spring loaded. It may be inline or cartridge (manifold) design. See also VALVE (1), LIFT-CHECK and VALVE (1), STOP-LIFT-CHECK.

VALVE,CHECK

A valve permitting flow in one direction only. It does not have a stem, except when equipped with a lever and weight and has no pressure adjustment. It may be inline or cartridge (manifold) design.

VALVE,SAFETY RELIEF

A valve designed to automatically release excessive pressures. It is actuated by static pressure upstream of the valve and is used as a safety valve or relief valve, and may be set to close at a predetermined pressure. It is not designed for regulation of continuously fluctuating loads. It may be inline or cartridge (manifold) design. Excludes VALVE (1), RELIEF, PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE.

VALVE,BUTTERFLY

A valve that controls flow by a circular disk, or a pair of semicircular disks, attached to a common spindle or lever turning on a diametral axis.

VALVE,PLUG

A valve designed to control the flow of a fluid by the rotation of a ported plug or plug sector within a suitable ported seat. The plug requires lubrication for ease of operation or contains a bonded composition seal(s). See also VALVE, SEATLESS and COCK, PLUG.

VALVE,REGULATING,TEMPERATURE

A self-acting valve designed for controlling, by means of a thermostatic element, the flow of liquids or gases therethrough. The thermostatic element is located in liquid or gas whose temperature is controlled by the heat of the liquid or gas flowing through the valve. See also VALVE, RELIEF, PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE.

VALVE,EXPANSION

A self-acting valve specifically designed for use in refrigeration systems for continual control of rate of flow of refrigerant. It may be actuated by a thermostatic element or self-actuated.

VALVE,PNEUMATIC TANK

A valve, designed for attachment to pressure tanks and/or mechanical equipment for the purpose of permitting an increase, decrease, and the gaging of pressure (similar to tire valves) within a confining chamber carrying compressed air, gases or oil.

FLOAT,VALVE

A floatation device used to actuate an inlet or outlet valve. It may be airtight and hollow, or of solid construction. Excludes floats designed for carburetors.

VALVE,EXHAUST CONTROL

A manually operated valve having one inlet and two outlets. It is designed to control the direction of exhaust gases into either of the outlets, one outlet discharging directly into the atmosphere, the other discharging under water.

VALVE,VACUUM BREAKING

An item designed to automatically relieve vacuum, by the intake of air, when the internal pressure falls below atmospheric pressure. See also VALVE, VACUUM REGULATING.

VALVE,AUTOMATIC TEMPERING

A self-acting valve with a thermostatic element inside the body. It is specifically designed to mix fluids of different temperatures, such as hot and cold water or steam and water, and to discharge at a predetermined temperature. See also VALVE, REGULATING, TEMPERATURE.

VALVE,PRESSURE EQUALIZING,GASEOUS PRODUCTS

A valve consisting of a single deadweight loaded disk, or two deadweight loaded disks each with a seperate seat. It is specifically designed for the relief of small pressure and vacuum conditions within a tank or other container to or from the atmosphere. The center of a single deadweight loaded disk may contain a spring loaded disk forming an additional seat or aperture. It may be spring loaded and/or equipped with a manual unloader on either the pressure or vacuum side. Exclude VALVE, VACUUM BREAKING.

VALVE,SEATLESS

A valve that controls flow by a cylindrical piston sliding vertically through packing rings separated by a metal cage having ports through which flow may proceed when the valve is open. Rotation of the threaded stem is used to regulate the position of the piston. See also VALVE, PLUG and VALVE, WEIGHTED CONTROL, PISTON.

VALVE,DIAPHRAGM,STOP

A valve designed specifically so the diaphragm seals the flow stream from the valve operating mechanism. The flow is controlled by the lifting of the diaphragm from or compressing it against an integral seat. For packless diaphragm valves which utilize a diaphragm as packing and a disk to control the flow, see VALVE, Y.

VALVE,FOOT

A valve used on the free end of a suction line permitting flow in only one direction. It is always equipped with a strainer at the inlet end. See also VALVE, CHECK.

PARTS KIT,PRESSURE REGULATING VALVE

A parts kit used for a VALVE, PRESSURE REGULATING. It may contain such items as a diaphragm, diaphragm spring, valve spring, valve seat, valve seat gasket, needle valve, relief ball, relief spring, dome gasket, and the like.

PARTS KIT,SAFETY RELIEF VALVE

COCK,DRAIN

An item with one mounting end and one free flowing end with a metal to metal valve closure. It is designed to drain fluids from radiators, boilers, and similar items.

COCK,POPPET DRAIN

An item designed to drain fluids from fuel systems, tanks, filters, or similar items. It has a mounting end, a free flowing end, and a quick-acting nonmetallic sealed closure, usually spring loaded, that holds it in an "off" position. It requires no lubrication other than from the fluid being drained.

COCK,SHUTOFF,SCREW STEM

A compact two-way type of valve mechanism having a one piece body and seat and a one piece stem and disk. It has no bonnet, and is not used for fine control of flow. It is used extensively in the automotive field.

COCK,PLUG

An item that controls the flow of a fluid by rotation of a ported plug within a suitable ported seat. It must not have any lubrication other than from the fluid controlled, nor contain any nonmetallic seal between plug and seat. See also VALVE, SEATLESS and VALVE, PLUG.

VALVE,Y

A valve with one inlet and one outlet connection that provides unobstructed fluid flow. The flow is controlled by the action of a stem which lifts disk perpendicularly off center axis of its seat. The stem is at angle of less than 90 degrees (1.5708 radians) to parallel inlet and outlet flow. It may utilize a diaphragm as packing. Excludes VALVE, STOP-CHECK.

VALVE,WEIGHTED CONTROL,PISTON

A valve consisting of a ported, dead weighted, hollow piston which moves vertically across the inlet passage within the valve body. Changes in the pressure controlled position of the piston vary the effective area of the ports exposed to the inlet flow in such a manner as to maintain a constant outlet line pressure. It has no seats or disk. For dead weight loaded pressure regulating valve of seat and disk construction, see also VALVE, REGULATING, FLUID PRESSURE.

VALVE,RELIEF,PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE

A valve designed to release under excessive pressure and/or excessive temperature by opening at a predetermined pressure and/or temperature. Thermostatically operated valves close when the pressure is relieved or the temperature is reduced. Fusible plug valves require replacement of the plug. See also VALVE, SAFETY RELIEF and VALVE, REGULATING. TEMPERATURE.

VALVE,FIRE CHECK

A valve which works on a thermostatic principle to stop and extinguish backfire in gas-air pipelines by utilizing the heat generated by the fire to actuate the mechanism which closes the valve. It also contains a swing check on the inlet connection which closes immediately upon shock caused by backfire, shutting off the gas-air mixture. It is designed for installation in a pipeline to feed gas-air mixtures to burners and the like.

VALVE,RESTRICTOR CHECK

A valve having an orifice in the poppet, disk, or the like, to permit restricted fluid flow when the valve is seated. It does not have a stem or provisions for pressure adjustments, and is similar to a VALVE, CHECK with the exception of the orifice which permits fluid flow in more than one direction.

VALVE,SHUTTLE

A valve having one outlet and two inlets that are usually opposite each other. It has a fluid pressure operated pistonlike item, called a shuttle, that controls either inlet. It is commonly used to provide an emergency passage for fluid in an aircraft hydraulic or pneumatic system in case of loss of pressure in the normal service lines.

FUSE,HYDRAULIC SYSTEM

A valve-like safety device used on hydraulic lines to prevent loss of hydraulic fluid from the system when the lines are ruptured or fail for any reason.

VALVE,BALL

A multi-ported, nonlubricated valve designed to provide straight through flow or ability to direct a number of flows or pressure through a single valve. The flow is controlled by the rotation of a ported ball within a suitable ported seat(s). The ball is usually engaged by a stem. It is normally operated in an open or closed position. Excludes VALVE, CHECK.

SEAT,VALVE

A replaceable item designed to provide a stationary seating surface for a mating, moveable item such as a valve disk or the like. The body may have a flange of various shapes. For diesel and gasoline reciprocating engines, see INSERT, ENGINE VALVE SEAT.

VALVE CORE

A cylindrical, spring loaded self-sealing unit designed to be (1) fitted into the valve stem of a pneumatic tire or inner tube or other inflatable item to retain inflation or (2) fitted into hydraulic, pneumatic or oxygen equipment and the like to permit pressure charging. Excludes VALVE CORE, HAND PUMP, DRAINAGE AND SUCTION APPARATUS.

VALVE,VACUUM REGULATING

A device designed to regulate vacuum within the desired operating limits. See also VALVE, VACUUM BREAKING.

VALVE,PNEUMATIC INFLATOR

A valve designed to control the inflation of life preservers, life rafts, watercraft and the like. The inlet end may be designed for oral inflation, to mate with an inflation adaptor or to connect to a compressed gas cylinder. The outlet end may be designed to connect the valve to a pneumatic chamber valve stem or to mount directly to the pneumatic chamber.

VALVE,REGULATING,FLUID PRESSURE

A valve designed to automatically maintain within close limits a predetermined outlet pressure which may be adjustable within a specified range regardless of the higher fluctuating or constant inlet pressure. It is designed for use with compressed gas(es) and various liquids and may include gauges. It may be inline or cartridge (manifold) design. Excludes REGULATOR, PRESSURE, MEDICAL GAS ADMINISTRATION APPARATUS; REGULATOR, OXYGEN, BAROMETRIC CONTINUOUS FLOW; REGULATOR, OXYGEN DEMAND; REGULATOR, OXYGEN DILUTER DEMAND; and valve(1), fluid pressure regulating, aircraft.

VALVE,LIFT-CHECK

A valve with a stem that may be mechanically actuated to two different positions by rotary or linear motion. In the first position, one side of the valve disk is located against the seat permitting movement of the disk in a manner that will allow a flow of fluid in one direction through the valve. In the second position, the valve disk is lifted from the seat to allow a flow of fluid in either direction through the valve. The valve disk may be spring loaded. VALVE,STOP-LIFT-CHECK

A valve with a stem that may be mechanically actuated to three different positions by rotary or linear motion. In the first position, the valve disk is located and locked against the seat permitting no fluid flow through the valve. In the second position, one side of the valve disk is located against the seat permitting movement of the disk in a manner that will allow a flow of fluid in one direction through the valve. In the third position, the valve disk is lifted from the seat to allow a flow of fluid in either direction through the valve. The valve disk may be spring loaded. DISK,RUPTURABLE

A thin, circular, metallic or nonmetallic item with a flat or prebulged cross-sectional shape, designed to rupture at a predetermined pressure to prevent damage to hydraulic or pneumatic systems, or the like. It may include multiple pieces, such as a retainer ring, disk and vacuum support. It can be used independently or as a component part of a HEAD, SAFETY, PRESSURE RELIEF. For items furnished with a holder, see HEAD AND DISK, SAFETY, PRESSURE RELIEF. For items without a rupture pressure rating, see DISK, SOLID, PLAIN. Excludes DIAPHRAGM, VALVE, FLAT; DIAPHRAGM, VALVE, SPECIAL SHAPED; DISK, VALVE; and INSULATOR, DISK.

HEAD,SAFETY,PRESSURE RELIEF

An item of varying shape and size consisting of a metallic body which incloses a nonreusable metallic or nonmetallic disk(s), which is designed and calibrated to burst at a given pressure. It may be used independently, or in conjunction with relief valves to relieve overpressure, and to protect relief valve(s) from corrosive conditions. Excludes VALVE, SAFETY RELIEF and PLUG, FUSIBLE. For items furnished with a disk, see HEAD AND DISK, SAFETY, PRESSURE RELIER.

STEM,NEEDLE VALVE

A metallic, needle shaped item having a one-piece stem threaded for securing to, or positioning into, a mating part. The point may be of various angles or shapes, such as conical or tapered, to correspond with the mating seat. The item is designed for the fine control flow or restriction of liquids or gases in a given system. It may be provided with a knurled head for rotation by thumbs and fingers, or be driven with either a wrench, handle, or inserted driver. Excludes VALVE, FUEL-AIR MIXTURE CONTROL, AUTOMATIC.

VALVE,TEE

A valve with three connections positioned parallel and/or 90 degrees (1.5708 radians) from each other and are not on a run. The flow is controlled by the action of a stem which lifts a disk perpendicularly off the center axis of its seat.

STEM,FLUID VALVE

An item usually metallic, threaded or unthreaded, used for securing to or positioning into a mating part. It is designed to be used in a globe, relief, regulator valve and the like as a means of controlling the flow of liquids or gases in a given system. One end may have an integral disk or be designed to accommodate a metallic or nonmetallic disk. The other end is designed for a handwheel, lever, spring, diaphragm and the like for nonpowered operation or to accommodate a gear, solenoid, air motor and the like for powered operation. The handwheel and/or disk may be furnished with the item. Excludes STEM, FAUCET; and STEM, NEEDLE VALVE.

BALL,VALVE,PORTED

A spherical shaped device with two or more ports used to prevent or regulate the flow of fluids in a valve, nozzle, or the like. It may include an integral valve stem. For valve balls that do not include ports see BALL, CHECK. Excludes PLUG, ROTARY, VALVE.

GUIDE,VALVE STEM

A replaceable cylindrical item designed to provide wear surface and maintain alignment of a reciprocating valve stem and the like, it may have a flange(s) and/or grooves.

VALVE,CALIBRATED FLOW

A valve specifically designed to automatically maintain a predetermined discharge flow rate which may be adjustable within a specific range. It is designed to be used with various fluids and may be preset and/or adjustable. It may be in-line or cartridge (manifold) design. DISK,VALVE

An item of various shapes (usually circular, conical, cylindrical, or rectangular) used to prevent or regulate the flow of liquids or gases through the valve. May include a retainer, screw, holder, and the like.

CAP,VALVE

A cap designed to mate with a fluid valve body. It may have an orifice through which a rod, shaft, stem, or an adjusting screw passes. For ported items, see HEAD, VALVE. Excludes CAP, PNEUMATIC VALVE.

HEAD,VALVE

An item designed to mate with a hydraulic or pneumatic valve body. It must have inlet and/or outlet port(s). For items without ports see CAP (1), VALVE.

VALVE,REGULATING,SYSTEM PRESSURE

A value designed to automatically maintain within close limits a predetermined pressure within a closed system regardless of the higher fluctuating or constant inlet pressure. The excess pressure is by-passed to the accumulator or reservoir in lieu of passing through the entire system. It is designed primarily for use in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Excludes VALVE, REGULATING, FLUID PRESSURE and VALVE, CALIBRATED FLOW.

RETAINER,DISK,VALVE

An item of various shapes and cross-sections, that may be flanged and that is designed to fit over a valve disk, allowing proper position of disk-to-valve seat within a valve body.

VALVE,SADDLE

A valve with an outlet end connection, straight thru or at an angle. The flow of liquid or gases may be controlled by the action of stem which lifts the disks perpendicularly off the center axis of its seat or by rotation of a suitable ported seat. This valve has a connection facility which is saddled over a line and bolted, may be line drilled or line self piercing.

VALVE,VENT

A valve designed to relieve internal pressure from gear housings, automotive axles, differentials, transmissions and the like. May or may not be threaded on one end. For items with relief pressure ratings see VALVE (1), SAFETY RELIEF.

BODY,VALVE

An item designed to enclose and support the internalpart(s) of a valve.

PISTON,VALVE

A cylindrical item of various configurations which reciprocates in a valve body, assisting in the movement of the disk to open or close a valve. May include additional components such as ring(s), collar(s), spring(s) and the like. Excludes DISK, VALVE.

INDICATOR,VALVE OPENING

An item specifically designed to show the open, intermediate, and closed disk relationship to the valve seat. It may be of various shapes, sizes, and mechanical designs such as glass tube, needle and slot. Excludes INDICATOR (1), POSITION&#59; GLASS, LIQUID SIGHT INDICATOR, FLAT.

CAGE,VALVE

A removable item within the valve body, designed to guide the plug and determine the flow characteristic of the valve and provide access for inspection or replacement without removing body from line. May include gaskets, spring, and the like.

VALVE,THROTTLE

A valve designed with multiple outlets of various sizes that are reduced to control the rate of flow and/or increased to reduce pressure. Excludes VALVE, REGULATING FLUID PRESSURE and VALVE, CALIBRATED FLOW.

VALVE,BLEEDER,HYDRAULIC SYSTEM

A metallic, threaded, screw-shaped item used in hydraulic brake cylinders, hydraulic power units, missile launching hydraulic systems, and the like, for the purpose of providing a means of releasing air form and/or flushing a hydraulic system. It may be furnished with or without a dust cap. Excludes spring loaded or automatic type air pressure relief valves, and BOLT, FLUID PASSAGE.

REGULATOR,THERMOSTATIC TEMPERATURE

A self sensored actuating regulator designed to automatically regulate the flow of liquid or steam through a valve to maintain a predetermined temperature. Designed to close or open a valve when a change in temperature is detected to avoid overheating of controlled unit. Valve body not included. See also REGULATOR (1), TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE.

REGULATOR,TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE

A self sensored regulator designed to automatically regulate steam flow and pressure according to predetermined pressure or temperature setting. Designed to open or close a valve when excessive or reduced pressure or temperature is detected. Valve body not included. See also REGULATOR (1), THERMOSTATIC TEMPERATURE.

DISK AND SEAT SET,VALVE

A unit of matched items consisting of a circular or cylindrical item, ground for provision to be lapped with the mating seating surface to function as a unit to form a drip tight seal. May include plate, insert, guide, rings, and the like. See also DISK, VALVE and SEAT, VALVE.

VALVE,LIQUID OXYGEN DRAIN

A valve designed to drain liquid oxygen from oxygen converters. It shall be a positive-position, toggle-actuating, bellows-sealed valve. It is specifically designed for oxygen systems.

VALVE,REGULATING,OXYGEN SYSTEM PRESSURE

A valve used to automatically maintain within close limits a predetermined pressure within an oxygen system regardless of the higher fluctuating or constant inlet pressure. The excess pressure is bypassed to the accumulator or reservoir in lieu of passing through the entire system. It is specifically designed and/or cleaned for oxygen systems. Excludes VALVE, REGULATING, SYSTEM PRESSURE; VALVE REGULATING, FLUID PRESSURE AND VALVE, CALIBRATED FLOW.

VALVE,SAFETY RELIEF,OXYGEN SYSTEM

A ported device designed to be installed on a valve plate to eliminate the valve function during the flushing operation.

GEAR OPERATOR,VALVE

A hand controlled device maneuvered by a gear designed to open and close the flow control device. May include open and close position indicator. Excludes GEAR ASSEMBLY, SPEED DECREASER; GEARBOX ACCESSORY DRIVE, TURBINE ENGINE; and GEARCASE-MOTOR.

POSITIONER,VALVE

A positive positioning relay devised to translate a variable signal pressure into a control pressure to precisely position a valve and to achieve a balanced instrument pressure. It is designed for use with pneumatically operated valves and actuators.

RING,VALVE PISTON

An item constructed of one or more layers of thin flexible material, either laminated or separated, designed to form a tight seal between the chambers of a valve, and to transmit pressure inducted motion to a valve disk either directly or through a mechanical linkage. A spherical shaped device that may be of solid or hollow construction. It is designed to seat in an opening thereby preventing the passage of fluid. REGULATING ELEMENT,FLOW,VALVE

A cylindrical item designed for stationary mounting in a valve to regulate and quiet the flow of liquids or gases. The flow is regulated by a series of passages such as drilled holes, slots, or the like. It is normally used on a submarine for a quiet operation.

VALVE,GLOBE-CHECK

A valve with one inlet and one outlet connection designed for precise, adjustable control of the flow in one direction and free flow in the opposite direction. Precise control is provided by a threaded needle or stem which is lifted perpendicularly off the center axis of its seat. Free flow is provided by an internal by-pass check valve which operates independently of the needle or stem.

VALVE,LIQUID-CHECK

A normally open valve which permits the passage of air or gases in both directions but prevents the passage of liquids in one direction. The action is controlled by a buoyant flow control device which rises against its seat when liquids are present therein.

MODULE ASSEMBLY,PRESSURE RELIEF

An item at specific pressure which discharges the excess liquid to a holding tank when the specified setting is exceeded.

FLANGE,GLAND,VALVE

An oval, rectangular, or round shaped item, bearing internally against a packing or a packing gland, used to compress packing. It consists of two or more mounting holes or slots.

BELLOWS,METALLIC,PACKLESS VALVE

A metallic item, partially enclosed by top and bottom plates, used in the construction of a valve where the freedom of leakage at the spindle is not dependent upon a gland of the packed type. It is usually made of copper and is used in refrigeration and similar services.

A cylindrical item with an opening throughout its length which may be of cylindrical or other cross-sectional shape. It has external grooves for fluid flow, and may have external packing grooves. This item provides internal porting for various inlet and outlet ports of a directional control linear valve.

SLIDE,DIRECTIONAL CONTROL LINEAR VALVE

An item which may have a cylindrical or other cross-sectional shape, with recess areas on the periphery. It is designed to control the flow direction in a linear directional control valve by the selection of various inlet and outlet ports in a sleeve or the valve body. The slide reciprocates thus mating recess areas with the various ports in the sleeve or valve body. It may have an off (no flow) position.

VALVE,LINEAR,DIRECTIONAL CONTROL

A manually or power operated valve having three or more ports. The direction of the flow through the various ports is controlled by either one or more reciprocating slide(s) or spool(s) with recess areas which mate with ports in an integral or replaceable ported sleeve, or one or more poppet(s). It is designed to change the direction of fluid flow from one valve port to another. An off (no flow) position is not a flow pattern. The valve is designed to actuate various components of a fluid system. A power operated valve may have a manual override. A valve with one inlet and one outlet connection with outlet flow parallel to inlet flow. The flow is controlled by the action of a stem which lifts the disk perpendicularly off the center axis of its seat. The stem is at a 90 degree (1.5708 radians) angle to axis of flow. VALVE,STOP-CHECK

A valve with a bolt or stem that may be mechanically actuated to two different positions by rotary or linear motion. In the first position, the valve disk is located and locked against the seat permitting no fluid flow through the valve. In the second position, one side of the valve disk is located against the seat permitting movement of the disk in a manner that will allow a flow of fluid in one direction through the valve. The valve disk may be spring loaded. It may be inline or cartridge (manifold) design. See also VALVE (1), LIFT-CHECK and VALVE (1), STOP-LIFT-CHECK.

VALVE,BUTTERFLY

A valve that controls flow by a circular disk, or a pair of semicircular disks, attached to a common spindle or lever turning on a diametral axis.

A valve having two or more ports with valve stem or pilot needle in a normally open or closed position. A valve designed to automatically maintain within close limits a predetermined outlet pressure which may be adjustable within a specified range regardless of the higher fluctuating or constant inlet pressure. It is designed for use with compressed gas(es) and various liquids and may include gauges. It may be inline or cartridge (manifold) design. VALVE,STOP-LIFT-CHECK

A valve with a stem that may be mechanically actuated to three different positions by rotary or linear motion. In the first position, the valve disk is located and locked against the seat permitting no fluid flow through the valve. In the second position, one side of the valve disk is located against the seat permitting movement of the disk in a manner that will allow a flow of fluid in one direction through the valve. In the third position, the valve disk is lifted from the seat to allow a flow of fluid in either direction through the valve. The valve disk may be spring loaded. STEM,NEEDLE VALVE

A metallic, needle shaped item having a one-piece stem threaded for securing to, or positioning into, a mating part. The point may be of various angles or shapes, such as conical or tapered, to correspond with the mating seat. The item is designed for the fine control flow or restriction of liquids or gases in a given system. It may be provided with a knurled head for rotation by thumbs and fingers, or be driven with either a wrench, handle, or inserted driver. Excludes VALVE, FUEL-AIR MIXTURE CONTROL, AUTOMATIC.

VALVE,TEE

A valve with three connections positioned parallel and/or 90 degrees (1.5708 radians) from each other and are not on a run. The flow is controlled by the action of a stem which lifts a disk perpendicularly off the center axis of its seat.

An item usually metallic, threaded or unthreaded, used for securing to or positioning into a mating part. VALVE,GLOBE-CHECK

A valve with one inlet and one outlet connection designed for precise, adjustable control of the flow in one direction and free flow in the opposite direction. Precise control is provided by a threaded needle or stem which is lifted perpendicularly off the center axis of its seat. Free flow is provided by an internal by-pass check valve which operates independently of the needle or stem.

An oval, rectangular, or round shaped item, bearing internally against a packing or a packing gland, used to compress packing. It consists of two or more mounting holes or slots.

A combination of two valves, one a stop valve, the other a stop check valve, either in the same body, or in separate bodies bolted together, used to control the admission of feed water to a boiler, to prevent the return of water or steam from the boiler, and to provide a means of shutting off the feed line between the stop check valve and the steam drum or economizer.

SERVOVALVE,HYDRAULIC

An item which controls both the direction and the rate of flow of fluid in direct response to a primary control of comparatively low level force. It is used for positioning a linear actuating cylinder assembly, and for controlling the rate of travel of the piston. The primary control force may be mechanical, hydraulic, and/or electrical.

PLUG,ROTARY,VALVE

A cylindrical or tapered item with ports or segments designed to stop or control the flow of fluid in a VALVE, PLUG, or the like. It may have an integral stem for connection to a handle, lever, rotary actuator, or the like.

SLEEVE,DIRECTIONAL CONTROL LINEAR VALVE

A cylindrical item with an opening throughout its length which may be of cylindrical or other cross-sectional shape. It has external grooves for fluid flow, and may have external packing grooves. This item provides internal porting for various inlet and outlet ports of a directional control linear valve.

SLIDE,DIRECTIONAL CONTROL LINEAR VALVE

An item which may have a cylindrical or other cross-sectional shape, with recess areas on the periphery. It is designed to control the flow direction in a linear directional control valve by the selection of various inlet and outlet ports in a sleeve or the valve body. The slide reciprocates thus mating recess areas with the various ports in the sleeve or valve body. It may have an off (no flow) position.

VALVE,LINEAR,DIRECTIONAL CONTROL

A manually or power operated valve having three or more ports. The direction of the flow through the various ports is controlled by either one or more reciprocating slide(s) or spool(s) with recess areas which mate with ports in an integral or replaceable ported sleeve, or one or more poppet(s). It is designed to change the direction of fluid flow from one valve port to another. An off (no flow) position is not a flow pattern. The valve is designed to actuate various components of a fluid system. A power operated valve may have a manual override.
